October Art Projects & DSS News

DSS art-school-flyer

After bouncing around some ideas with an awesome PTA mom (Yes, that’s you, Kimm!), Deep Space Sparkle will be unveiling a new art curriculum for school art docents, home-school parents and PTA programs. Next Spring, the site will offer grade-level art enrichment units that will feature videos & powerpoint presentations for the kids (not the teacher), handouts and lesson tutorials all based on projects my amazing group of students have completed. In addition, non-artsy parents and volunteers can enroll in my new “Art School”. Details on both projects will be released later this winter. Can you tell I’m excited!  This is an awesome creative challenge for me and I hope you will all benefit from it.

Beyond the Basics e-course

So, something has to give. Next week (Monday, October 14th) will be my last involved session of Beyond the Basics e-course.  Instead, the course will be offered as self-guided course in February 2014. Same course, just minus the forum, homework, prizes and interaction from me.

There are a few seats left for next week’s class. Join me and art teachers from around the world as we delve deeper into some super creative, yet easy art projects, that will check off all your art standards. You can register here.

Autumn Art Projects

My Kinders are learning how to mix primary colors, how to paint with black paint and discovering the colors of Autumn. Tutorials for these cute pumpkins and artsy leaves will be on the site next week, so check back! My fifth graders are working on a unit by Canadian artist, Emily Carr and my sixth graders finished an amazing Keith Haring project and are now onto drawing African Animals.

What are you working on?

I am enjoying the last few days of school holidays ( west Australia). I am looking forward to doing my first E-Course with you, but in the meantime I need to work out my first lessons for next week.

  3. I am looking forward to trying out some new techniques in your Beyond the Basics course.

Something I am working on is getting my class website and Artsonia gallery going. It is a lot of work but I think it will be worth the effort. I would really appreciate feedback on how I could improve the website. You might see some familiar images in there.

It would be great if you could list some of the needed materials early. I am a home school mama who lives overseas and only gets to the US to buy suppies on furlough. I will need the list by December!

I was looking for something Halloweenish to do with my Kinders. Nothing inspired me until now. Hope the tutorials are available by Tuesday (is that a possibility?) since I have them Wednesday. Otherwise, I guess I’ll have to devise something on my own. Love your lessons!

  6. Hi Patty,

I am so excited for your new course! This is my 7th year as a volunteer art parent in Boise, Idaho. I love your great projects and so do the students and teachers! Thank you for sharing them on your beautiful website.

  7. I just want to say thank you for the great resource that you are! I am a homeschool mommy and I am teaching an art class for our friends who homeschool (a mixed group of preschoolers – 4th grade) based mostly on your projects. It is such fun and there is so much inspiration on your site! It is definitely a blessing to this amateur artist!
