Second grade students have evolved from docile artists to big balls of energy. This is the age where I begin to see students breaking away and taking their art projects to new levels while others still struggle with basic cutting skills. Most students know how to paint with tempera and watercolor paints and enjoy experimenting with texture, resist and mixing. Second graders do very well at drawing from observation and can create their own art from directed line instruction (this is the best!).
- Understand tempera paint, how to paint with long strokes and how to create texture.
- Can create tints.
- Are proficient with watercolor resist and wet-on-dry technique.
- Know how to mix secondary colors from primary.
