Sixth grade students can be a mixed bag. Some years a class can be a struggle while other years a class can be filled with eager artists. Many will know exactly how to push your buttons so establish a very natural repot with these kids as they will be able to sense if you are nervous or frustrated.
I find relating to my sixth graders easy as long as I treat them like little adults and not kids. Have fun with these little adults and don’t be afraid to expect them to produce a high level of art because they will.
- Can handle detailed line art as well as shading and highlighting.
- Use complementary colors to create contrast instead of black.
- Still struggle with composition and placing objects with intent for the eye to move around a piece of art. Many still work from the edges.
- Can mimic the Masters quite well
