After five years of publishing art lesson plans, I am thrilled to announce my first Activity Pack!
A little different from my lesson plans, Activity Packs are perfect for the non-artist parent or teacher who would like art and literature activities for their children.
My first Activity Pack, Color Theory and Literature, is based on Eric Carle’s, The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse. Read the book to your students, photocopy the color theory activities onto card stock and allow children to work at their own pace or direct a guided art activity.
The activity pack includes 3 art activities that are based on animal templates from the story as well as personal expression.

Select which activity page you would like to work with and photo copy the page onto card stock. Make sure to select landscape or horizontal layout.
Most of the pages are designed for 81/2″ x 11″ card stock. This way, the activity can be completed in a short amount of time. If you have access to larger 11″ x 17″ card stock, this size paper would be great for smaller children as cutting larger shapes is easier.
There are a few options for the parent or teacher when using the templates. For the very young, you may find it helpful to cut the templates yourself. A pre-schooler can then practice her coloring skills directly onto the templates.
For Kinders, you can cut out a selection of templates and allow the Kinders to trace and cut their animal shape onto paper they painted.
For older kids, cutting out the more detailed animal shapes is more challenging.
