  1. Do you have a sample of what the classes will be like? I think this is something I would be interested in signing up for. Thanks

  2. Hello,
I am very inspired by your website. I am volunteering in an orphanage in China. Most of the children are special needs such as intellect disabilities or delayed, autism, cerebral palsy, etc. They have an art class for them but needs varieties to enrich their interests. I am planning to teach them doing arts with colors. Do you have experience with special needs? I am not an artist and never taught art. I just love to do arts and crafts. Your Teaching 101 sounds really good. Should I start with that?
    Thanks.

  3. Hello,

In “Teaching Art 101” please describe the 25 hours of professional development portion of the class.
    Thank you! Alice

    • Hi Alice,
You can download a certificate for 25 PD hours. This is an estimate of how many hours you would need to go through the class, do the projects and watch the videos. Keep in mind that this is a self-study class and no homework or student requirements are given. Like I mentioned in the course description, these hours are not affiliated with any institution of higher learning.
      Thanks for the question!

  4. This looks like such a great online class! I am not a teacher nor do I have an art degree, but I volunteer art classes at my daughter’s school since art is not offered there. It kills me that there aren’t funds for it. Do you ever run discounts or special offers for this class or smaller portions of the class to chop of the overall cost? I currently pay for all art supplies myself so it’s hard for me to commit to the entire course right now, but I’d love to start! Thank you so much for offering such amazing resources!

    • Hi Melody,
I rarely offer discounts on the class and I only offer it whole, but there are tons of individual lessons in my shop and free lessons on my site that you might want to experiment with.
To start, click on ART LIBRARY in the menu bar and scroll down to ART LESSONS BY GRADE. Select your daughters grade and see what interests you. Some lessons you pay for but most are free.
      have fun!

    • Hi there,
Although many of the lessons are for older students (grades k-6 ages 5-11) many preschool and kinder teachers have loved the program. I think the class really helps sort out what type of supplies to use for different projects, how to facilitate art projects with kids and lot of art technique tips 9which are great for the 6’s). Hope this helps!

  7. Hi Patty, I am a 1st grade teacher who is trying to re-inspire art in our small school district in Oregon. I would love to attend you summer institute, but it is too far and too costly for my district. Therefore, I was thinking about asking the district to purchase the art 101 lessons/materials for myself. I teach at a K-3 school and am part of an art committee that has a teacher from each grade level – is there a way for all four of us to do the program together? Or do we just each need to purchase it separately? Do you have any other suggestions on how we can align our program to teach skills that will build upon each other?

    Suzi

    March 5, 2016

    • Hi Suzi,
The teaching Art 101 class is priced for individual use. So each teacher has to purchase access. Some additional alternatives are to sign up for the Summer Workshop online event that will launch in October. It will contain abbreviated (edited) videos of the 2-Day summer workshop event, training, chat, etc. Details have not been released yet but if you are on the Summer Workshop mailing list, I’ll send you info.
Another option is to purchase the Art School for Kids online art school. You can purchase the Everything option which allows access for your school. The program contains a mini adult training course, 43 videos for 7 grade levels.
Lost of info, so if you need more help, you can contact me through my contact page and we can have more discussions. Thanks!

  11. Do you or are you considering graduate credits for license renewal at a reasonable cost for your online classes? Thanks

    Tahera Horstman

    July 11, 2016

    • Hi Tahera,
No, partnering with a University for credits requires more cost and more administrative work than what it is worth. I like to keep the cost of the class really low so that anyone can afford to take it the class. It’s a great question though! Thank you.

  15. Hi there. I am looking for an art curriculum for my 6 and 9 year old homeschooled boys. Is your Art 101 class appropriate for that age and gender? Is that the first curriculum to purchase if I am new to your program? Will that keep us plenty busy with art projects? Thank you so much.

    • The Art 101 class is great if you don’t have any art experience and want to learn. There are over 24 art project so plant to have fun with. It’s also very cost effective.
The Art School for Kids program is video based. The videos can be played to the children. This is beneficial especially of you don’t have any art experience. Just gather the supplies an play the video.
      Hope this helps!

  16. Hello! I can’t wait to enroll in this class. I think it will be perfect for what I am wanting to accomplish with my kids. I was wondering about how long it takes to complete all the modules. Trying to budget my time wisely. Thanks so much!

    November 3, 2016

    • Overall the class offers 25 hours of PD clock hours. That’s how long it takes to watch the videos and do each lesson.
Hope to see you in class!

  17. Hi Patty,
I am teaching art to children in grades 1-3 (mixed together in one class). What would be the advantage of joining the Members Club vs. paying the $129 and being able to take the course Teaching Art 101?
    Thank you!

    • Great question. The Teaching Art 101 class is designed to help adults learn great techniques to teach art to kids. It is designed so that anyone who is brand new to teaching art or wants to improve on the success of the art projects they do in class. The class teaches over 2 dozen art lessons for kids in agrees k-6 through video. The video talks to the teacher, explaining how I teach a particular project and technique to my students.
The Members Club is all about supporting you as you teach art. The membership offers hundreds of lessons plans based on artists, literature, culture, etc PLUS art resources, curriculum guides, a support group…all for a monthly fee. It’s really an incredible resource for anyone teaching art. The time you save on lesson planning is fantastic. I have monthly memberships for K-6 and also K-2, 3-4 and 5-6. You may like the K-2 grade level.
      Hope this helps!
