Lesson #1 African Huts

Colorful mud huts are created using paper and pastel then placed upon a radiant painted sunset. Children learn composition, pattern and perspective (Here, Near and Far). A visually stunning piece that requires three, 45-minute art sessions.

Lesson #2 Torn Paper Giraffes

Directed line instruction teaches basic giraffe anatomy and simple drawing techniques. Spots are created using torn bits of paper (great for fine motor skills) and then the whole piece is cut out and placed on a grassy plain. Expect children to complete the project in two, 45-minute art sessions.

Lesson #3 Senufo Mud Cloth

(Ivory Coast Art) Using thick and thin lines, children reproduce a classic Senufo image. Photocopy the warm-up sheet to wake up creativity and then use the Idea Sheet to inspire designs. Requires only one, 45-minute art lesson but you can extend it to two lessons if you take some time with the warm-up sheets.

Lesson #4 Maasai Figure Drawings

Inspired by the dramatic silhouettes of the Maasai, children create a single warrior or a family adding dramatic African patterns for details. Requires two, 45-minute art sessions.

This 21-page booklet inlcudes step-by-step photo tutorials that originate from the classroom setting. Eliminate the guess work when evaluating a lesson by checking out the student galleries.

Five original Deep Space Sparkle handouts include:

Thick & Thin Warm-up Practice Sheet
Senufo Mud Cloth Designs
African Patterns
Maasai Figure Drawings
How to Draw a Giraffe

How to Access your DIGITAL Lessons

By adding your email and password to our system, we can provide you with a history of all your purchased art lessons. This means you can access them anytime you wish through the “My DSS” button. Please note: Your “My DSS” password is unrelated to your e-course password

Once your payment goes through, you will be guided to a download link so you can see your lesson plan straight away. All lesson plans that you order will remain in your own personalized “DSS store” for access whenever and wherever you want so even if you didn’t received the link via email, you can always access the lessons via “My DSS”.

I like to print out my lesson plans and place in a lesson plan book, but if you are watchful of your ink supply, you may just want to print just the handouts. I’ve designed them in black and white so you can photocopy them easily and cheaply.
