We are featuring one of our Black History Month lessons from The Sparklers Club.
This project was inspired by the book Beautiful Blackbird and the creative process of author & illustrator Ashley Bryan.
It’s a fun project that’ll help develop fine motor skills and teach kids the basics of contrast, emphasis and composition.
Students will cut out the templates and plan how to arrange their pieces to create a balanced work of art.
This 10 page lesson includes:
Step-by-step drawing guides for the paper bird & background sun
Intro & history on Ashley Bryan
National Core Art Standards
I Can Statements
Common Core Standards for 1st grade
Assessment Checklist specific to this lesson.
